At its Oct. 7 meeting the Firefighters Pension Board approved Lynette Kirby’s application to join the board and discussed the 2026 meeting schedule.
Lynette Kirby introduced herself: "I am president of the Women's Club of Baltimore. I am a member of the, planning board. And Jenny actually reached out to me and said that there was an opening here and asked if I would apply. So Okay. I did," she said. The board then moved to approve her application; the motion was seconded and the voice vote recorded as in favor.
Board members asked about Ms. Kirby’s availability and orientation. Kirby said she works for a financial planning company in Clearwater, that she can usually attend meetings and is used to evening meetings through her planning-board and women's-club service. The board told Kirby she will receive administrative communications from Joyce Reed of the Florida League of Cities, the plan administrator.
Trustees also discussed meeting cadence for 2026. Staff proposed quarterly meetings; members expressed a preference for Tuesday–Thursday dates and 10 a.m. start times. Specific preferences included avoiding Mondays, scheduling April dates outside the city staff’s planned absence window, and placing the October meeting after Oct. 15 to avoid conflicts with 5500 filing deadlines. Staff said they would circulate proposed dates and run them through the city calendar and Pedro’s office for conflicts.
The meeting record also included a staff clarification about board terms and reappointment: for city appointees the typical reappointment is handled by city council; staff said Florida practice allows holdover service until a seat is filled. "...Florida is considered a holdover state," a staff member said.
The board asked staff to gather contact information from Ms. Kirby and to provide orientation materials and logistics for future meetings.
