Residents of Huron will soon see improvements in local safety and community services following key discussions at the Huron City Commission meeting held on October 6, 2025. A primary concern raised during the public forum was the need for a privacy fence between newly constructed storage units and nearby apartment buildings. A resident from Newport Estates expressed worries about increased traffic and safety risks in the area, prompting city planners to commit to reviewing the original zoning agreement and addressing the issue promptly.
In addition to safety concerns, the commission addressed personnel changes within the city. Two resignations were accepted: Cheryl Kline Saucer, a 911 telecommunicator, and Chloe Authy, a police officer. Both positions will be advertised for replacement. The commission also approved the hiring of Dylan Corcoran for a maintenance position in parks and recreation, effective November 3, 2025.
The meeting also included a public announcement regarding a temporary road closure on West Park Avenue from October 13 to October 17, as Glacial Lakes Energy conducts work on the railroad tracks. Residents are advised to seek alternative routes during this period.
Another significant topic was the decision to open a request for proposals for food and beverage management at the Huron Event Center. The current vendor, Top Floor Events, has held the contract since 2016, and the commission believes it is time to explore new options. The new contract will begin on January 1, 2026, and will be available for interested vendors through the city’s finance office and website.
These discussions reflect the commission's commitment to enhancing community safety and services, ensuring that residents' concerns are addressed while also exploring opportunities for local businesses. As the city moves forward, residents can expect continued engagement and improvements in their community.
