City staff explained the change is intended to correct a conflict between Forest Park’s 2023 IGA with Riverdale and Riverdale’s IGA with Clayton County. The existing arrangement had created overlapping responsibilities; the amendment makes Clayton County the primary responder and keeps Forest Park available for supplemental support when county resources are unavailable.
Councilwoman Gunn praised the department’s responsiveness to a recent resident call about animals in the community, thanking the chief and staff for acting promptly. The amendment does not change Forest Park’s capacity to respond when asked by Clayton County or Riverdale; rather, it aligns written agreements with current county resources and operational practice.
Staff will coordinate implementation of the amended agreement with Clayton County and Riverdale and continue to provide support as a secondary responder when requested.
