Commissioners plan to cancel Nov. 4 meeting and hold canvass on Nov. 12 at 9 a.m.

The Harvey County Board of Commissioners discussed scheduling around the Nov. 4 general election and agreed to cancel the Nov. 4 meeting and hold canvassing during the week of the election on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 9 a.m. A commissioner raised the scheduling question and noted that Nov. 11, the typical canvass day, is Veterans Day. The board considered options and settled on rescheduling meetings to Nov. 12. Commissioners discussed starting the canvass at 8:30 a.m. in prior practice but agreed it would be acceptable to begin at 9 a.m. so regular business could start at the normal hour. Rick, elections staff, told commissioners that early voting starts two weeks before the election — Oct. 21 — and agreed to email the board a calendar of election-related dates and equipment test times for staff transparency. The decision was reached by consensus during the calendaring discussion and no formal motion was recorded; commissioners asked staff to publish the updated schedule and to include the times for testing election equipment.
