County says $2.5 million grant will fund Fourteenth Street bridge replacement; state pays majority

County Administrator Kevin said the bridge had needed replacement “for quite some time” and that the grant was a “big win for the county.” He told the commission that part of the bridge will be configured for pedestrian use. In discussion Commissioner Scott asked whether the state’s involvement was related to connecting bike paths; Kevin said he did not know. A board member recalled that a prior bridge near Whitewater had been 100% funded, but county staff later confirmed the Fourteenth Street project is expected to be 85% paid for by external funding. Kevin and other county staff characterized typical funding shares on such projects as commonly 80–90% from state and federal sources. No formal vote was required on the grant announcement; the discussion was an informational report from county staff.
