Drainage board approves HFI drainage plan, retroactive ditch claims and notes Pigeon Creek commission approval

The Vanderburgh County Drainage Board on Sept. 24 granted final drainage-plan approval for a contractor building project in the Castle Creek subdivision and approved retroactive maintenance claims tied to the 2024 legal drain program. County staff said Easley Engineering submitted final drainage plans for a 2.91-acre site at Castle Creek Court (Lot 7) for a two-phase project; phase 1 is moving forward now. Staff cited Vanderburgh County Code provisions that require drainage-board approval before building permits are issued and require as-built drawings after construction. The board voted to approve the HFI drainage plan with the conditions noted in the staff review; the motion passed unanimously. The drainage board also approved 14 ditch claims submitted since its Sept. 10 meeting, totaling $1,773.26, for maintenance contracted under the board’s 2024 legal drain work. The board approved the claims retroactively. Finally, staff briefed the board that the Pigeon Creek Watershed Development Commission was approved by the Indiana Natural Resources Commission on Sept. 17, 2024. The county surveyor’s office is reviewing statutory requirements to establish commission membership and other steps and will provide monthly updates to the drainage board. Less critical details: staff said the drainage plan meets county code and that as-built drawings will be required after work is finished.
