County rescinds temporary outdoor burning ban after rain

After recent rainfall and forecasted additional moisture, the commissioners voted to rescind a temporary outdoor burning ban and ended associated penalties while saying they will reimpose it if conditions worsen.
Vanderburgh County commissioners on Sept. 24 voted to rescind a temporary ban on outdoor burning that had been in place earlier in the month. Adam, speaking for the county fire chief and the Suburban Fire Chiefs Association, told the board that recent rain and forecasts of additional precipitation reduce fire danger and that local fire officials supported lifting the ban for now. "With the rain that we received the last few days and the predicted rain over the weekend, we are all in favor of rescinding the burn ban at this point," Adam said. The board adopted Resolution CODotR-09-24-012 to remove the burn ban and the associated penalties; commissioners said they would reintroduce a ban if conditions again warrant restrictions. The motion to rescind passed unanimously with recorded Yes votes from Commissioner Gable, Commissioner Musgrave and President Elpers.
