The advisory board approved a $15,000 storm mitigation and resiliency grant for Crooked Halos, a downtown Dean Street tenant, toward a $20,000 project; installation requires owner permission and additional studies before work can proceed.
The Community Redevelopment Agency advisory board approved a storm mitigation and resiliency grant of up to $15,000 for Crooked Halos, a downtown business on Dean Street, to support a storm‑mitigation device and related studies. "This is an application from Crooked Halos, a downtown business located on Dean Street," CRA staff member Hilton Terry told the board during the item presentation.
Staff said Crooked Halos submitted two proposals and elected the $15,000 option; the total project cost is $20,000 and additional preinstallation studies are required before any equipment can be installed. The applicant is the tenant; staff confirmed the tenant has to obtain permission from the property owner for installation and that, under the amended program agreement, installed devices become fixtures that remain with the property.
Board members noted neighboring property owners have expressed interest in the program; staff said other businesses across the street have submitted or are preparing applications. The advisory board moved to approve the grant (motion by Vice Chair Holloway, second by Mr. Bartholomew) and recorded a unanimous voice vote.
Next steps: CRA staff will complete a grant agreement specifying the owner’s permission requirement and the studies to be completed before disbursement. Installation will proceed only after required studies and owner approvals are on file.
