The City of College Place is gearing up for significant water infrastructure improvements and community engagement initiatives as discussed in the recent Economic Development, Tourism, and Events Commission meeting on October 6, 2025.
A major highlight from the meeting was the announcement of an $8 million investment in the water tower project, which is set to commence next year. The city is collaborating with the Army Corps of Engineers to secure funding, with the Corps providing a portion while the city covers the remainder. This project is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city’s water supply and infrastructure.
In addition to the water tower, several other projects were outlined, including the reservoir transmission main, which is partially funded by Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and federal appropriations totaling $2.5 million. The city is also planning to rehabilitate Well Number 3, which will include the installation of a generator, with design work expected to begin in April 2026.
The meeting also addressed the seismic retrofit and repainting of the existing water tower, supported by a FEMA grant covering 87.5% of the costs. Furthermore, upgrades to the SCADA controls, essential for monitoring the city’s water systems, are planned over the next two years, with funding sourced from water reserves.
On a cultural note, the commission discussed preparations for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This milestone will involve community engagement activities, including public voting on five local artifacts to represent the region's history. The initiative aims to foster civic duty among youth and promote community beautification efforts, with potential collaborations with local museums.
These developments reflect the city’s commitment to improving essential services while also engaging the community in historical reflection and civic participation. As these projects move forward, residents can expect enhanced water infrastructure and opportunities to connect with their local heritage.
