County engineer reports paving projects underway on Bridal Arrow Creek, Blackjack and Wildwood roads

The county engineer reported that multiple paving projects are in progress across St. Clair County: a micro-surface contractor is paving Bridal Arrow Creek Road, contractor Wiregrass is in the middle of paving Blackjack Road, and the county paving crew is working on Wildwood Road.

Why it matters: Road maintenance schedules and contractor activity affect traffic, safety and local construction timelines. Commissioners asked about timelines for the Blackjack Road project; the engineer said, "I would say, Blackjack from this point, it'll take probably another 3 weeks to finish." That estimate was offered in response to a commissioner query about a long-running project.

The commission praised the work and noted the county’s goal of doing at least 60 miles of pavement work per year; this season the engineer said the county is on pace to do about 70 miles. Commissioners and staff discussed pothole and pipe repair requests in specific localities and asked residents to report problem spots for remedial work.

The county engineer did not present a formal action for approval during the report; commissioners received the update as an informational item.
