The Tuscaloosa City Council voted to adopt a rezoning petition by Bradley Wyatt to change roughly 5.52 acres at and around 3910 Foster's Ferry Road from GC (General Commercial) to IL (Light Industrial). The request, located near the Foster's Ferry Road, Culver Road and Joe Mallisham intersection in Council District 1, is intended to allow a tire sales business and a mechanic shop capable of servicing larger vehicles.
A city planner presenting the item said the property is currently vacant and that the rezoning conforms to the city’s future land-use framework, which designates the area as corridor commercial. The planner also reported that the Planning Commission did not recommend approval at its July 21, 2025 meeting.
Applicant Bradley Wyatt told the council the industrial zoning is necessary to service larger vehicles. “We’re wanting to get it zoned for industrial from commercial to industrial. It's going to be a tire store, but we're going to service all size cars, regular cars, and larger vehicles. And to service larger vehicles, it’s got to be, from my understanding, zoned to industrial,” Wyatt said during the public hearing.
An engineer for the project, Michael McGuire of McGuire and Associates, said basic site infrastructure is available and that a land-development submittal is on hold pending the zoning outcome. No members of the public spoke in opposition during the hearing.
The council took a vote and adopted the zoning amendment. The meeting record shows the rezoning item was adopted; the formal vote was recorded as affirmative by council members present. The Planning Commission’s prior nonrecommendation and the applicant’s statement that the land-development process is paused were both part of the council record.
Less critical details: the applicant’s address was listed as 15573 Highway 69 North, Northport; the engineer gave an address of 2615 Gary Fifth Street. The planning staff noted the site plan presented to the Planning Commission has since changed and is under revision.
