Morris Township Revokes Basking Ridge Towing License After Insurance Lapse

Morris Township on Aug. 20 revoked the police‑requested towing license of Basking Ridge Towing LLC after police testimony that the company lacked required insurance for several months while licensed by the township.
The township held a public revocation hearing at which Sergeant Mark Osterhout, administrative sergeant with the Morris Township Police Department, told the committee that the insurer on file informed police the company canceled coverage on Dec. 27, 2024, and a replacement policy did not begin until May 30, 2025 — leaving a gap during which the firm remained licensed to tow for the township.
The hearing record shows the police department investigated after receiving information from the administrator’s office and confirmed the gap by contacting the insurance providers. Alexander (municipal attorney) presented documents for the record and advised the committee that the lack of continuous insurance violated the township code provision the hearing cited.
Citing probable cause based on the police investigation, the committee approved Resolution 206‑25 revoking Basking Ridge Towing’s license. The roll call vote was recorded as: Mister Griseuille — yes; Mister Jorffy — yes; Mister Genada — yes; Mister Ravitz — yes; Mayor Griglia — yes.
The resolution states the company “shall not provide any police requested towing service and/or storage service within the township unless and until a new license is granted.” The committee’s action followed the township code notice procedures read into the record (identified in the hearing as section 460‑983 of the township code).
Sergeant Osterhout provided the factual basis for revocation and the committee acted on that evidence; no representatives of Basking Ridge Towing appeared at the hearing in person or online. The committee clerk received and entered nine documents into the hearing record, as noted by the municipal attorney.
The revocation takes immediate effect. The resolution permits the company to seek a new license in the future, which would require meeting all licensing conditions including continuous insurance.
The township clerk said more detailed hearing materials are part of the municipal record and available upon request.
