Bids opened for Ottawa Road Phase 3; county to review bids before award

Atchison County officials opened sealed bids for Ottawa Road Phase 3 during the Oct. 7 commission meeting. A county representative who was sitting in for Road and Bridge Superintendent Joe Snyder read three contractor bids and the engineer’s estimate; the board said it would review the submissions and discuss them at next week’s meeting.

Bids opened (as read into the record): - McAnany Construction (Shawnee, Kan.): base project subtotal read as $708,008.92; add-alternate subtotal read as $703,005.11; total read aloud by the bid reader as $1,412,004.00 (as recorded in the meeting). - Lisonbee Weaver Construction (Lansing, Kan.): base subtotal read as $688,008.23; add-alternate subtotal read as $666,002.70; total read aloud as $1,355,094.20. - Kings Construction (Oskaloosa, Kan.): base subtotal read as $619,909.02; add-alternate subtotal read as $600,309.70; total read as $1,220,218.72.

The engineering estimate from Schwab Eton was read as a base subtotal of $763,789.50 and an add-alternate subtotal of $753,561.00 for a total estimate of $1,517,350.50.

The board did not award the contract at the meeting; staff said Road and Bridge leadership would review the bids and return to the board next week for further discussion. A county official handed the bid documents back to the clerk at the close of the reading.

The meeting record does not include the engineer’s detailed estimate sheet or a formal recommendation; commissioners deferred decision-making until the superintendent can review the bids.
