County staff said Coleman, a Jefferson City resident, will begin with the county next week and will work in three stints that include the summer of 2026; the program runs through May 2027. The intern will be paid from the county's part-time budget.
A county staff member said the arrangement gives the maintenance shop a chance to train a potential future employee. "If Luke trains in our discipline ... it might be a good opportunity to have a chance of getting an employee hired out of that program," the staff member said.
The commission approved the agreement and authorized the county representative to sign the digital document and a hard copy for the record.
The county did not specify further hiring guarantees beyond standard hiring processes; staff described the internship as a training opportunity that could lead to future employment but did not promise a hire.
