Mayor Julia Abishon told the Florence City Council caucus that residents should have received tax bills reflecting a 3 percent reduction in the city portion of their real-estate property taxes this year.
Abishon also announced operational and community-service items: city offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 13 for Columbus Day; fall cleanup for Florence residents runs Oct. 13–19 with drop-off at the public services maintenance facility (7850 Tanners Lane) and proof of residency required; the annual leaf-collection program runs Oct. 20–Dec. 18; and a household hazardous-waste collection event is scheduled Nov. 1 at Thomas More Stadium for Boone, Kenton and Campbell residents (businesses excluded, registration required).
Upcoming events listed by the mayor included a Halloween event at Thomas More Stadium on Oct. 28 from 6–8 p.m., a witness-tree program in November with daily 8 a.m. ceremonies honoring veterans lost to suicide (placing 22 dog tags daily), and the Veterans Day program on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Florence Government Center community rooms. The mayor also promoted a holiday card contest (entries due Nov. 12) with winners announced at the tree lighting on Dec. 2.
City staff contact numbers and a webpage were given for details and schedules; residents were told to call the public services department at (859) 647-5416 or the administration department at (859) 647-8177 for event information. No council action was required for these announcements.
