San Clemente honors two employees credited with lifesaving CPR at high school

San Clemente recognized two school staff members on Oct. 7 for lifesaving actions after they responded to a medical emergency at San Clemente High School on Sept. 18. Mayor Steve Noblak read formal commendations for Chris Murray and Amber Anaya, telling the council the city “extends our sincere appreciation” for their actions.
Juan Perez, battalion chief with the Orange County Fire Authority, described the “chain of survival” for sudden cardiac arrest — early recognition and activation, immediate CPR, rapid defibrillation, advanced life support and post‑arrest care — and said Murray and Anaya became the “critical link” by providing CPR and AED use that enabled deputies and paramedics to continue treatment. Paramedic Ryder Malloy and partner Michael Gallardo said they were on the call and thanked the two for their quick actions. Amber Anaya and Chris Murray accepted the commendations and posed for photos with council members and emergency responders.
The council paused to thank Orange County Sheriff’s Department and OCFA personnel who attended; sheriff's representatives invited the two to consider first‑responder careers. No council action beyond the presentations was required.
