Del Valle ISD presented a proposed resolution to begin the public review process for updated puberty and maturation curriculum, a change administrators said will follow the district b9s standard human sexuality curriculum review process.
Kathy Martinez, director of health services, told trustees the district has not updated this curriculum in several years and that counselors previously used several different materials. She said nurses will participate in the review and that the process includes two open public meetings to review candidate curricula, recording sessions for later viewing, review by the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and then a recommendation to the board.
Martinez said the board already addresses human sexuality in policy and that the proposed work mirrors the process used last year for other health curriculum updates. No adoption vote was taken Wednesday; trustees were given the resolution as an information item and Martinez said the board will vote on final adoption in a future meeting after SHAC and public review.
