Veterans services seeks $20,000 NCDMV grant for Mooresville satellite; commissioners give permission to apply

Iredell County Veteran Services requested and received board permission to apply for a $20,000 N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) grant to enhance the Mooresville satellite office. The board approved the request by consent.

The presenter, identified in the record as Bridal Snyder, said the funds would be used for office furnishings such as two cubicles, outreach materials and minor interior improvements to provide private space for veterans seeking benefit assistance. "Without the privacy enclosed spaces, we risk compromising their confidentiality and comfort, and the cubicles allow us to serve them with dignity and discretion," Snyder said.

A commissioner asked whether the county should approve the project even if the grant is not awarded. Snyder estimated two cubicles would cost about half the requested grant; if the grant is not awarded staff can scale purchases. The board asked Snyder to report back by the October 24 grant notification date if the grant is not received.

The presenters and commissioners confirmed the grant is typically a reimbursement program and staff should wait for official notice before seeking reimbursement.
