The City of Herington is gearing up for significant community engagement with the upcoming third workshop open house for the streets and capital improvement plan, scheduled for October 20 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. City officials are encouraging residents to attend and gather vital information about the future of local infrastructure.
During the recent City Commission meeting, discussions also highlighted the Harrington Fall Festival, set to take place in September, featuring activities from 9 AM until after dark, including a movie screening. This event aims to foster community spirit and engagement.
In the public works department report, notable progress was made in September. The street department conducted trench safety training in collaboration with the fire department, ensuring staff are well-prepared for safety protocols. Concrete repairs were completed on South E and South Eighth Street, addressing areas previously dug out for water and sewer repairs. Additionally, a new concrete pad was poured in front of the salt shed to enhance operational efficiency.
The water department reported two water leaks on the raw water line and successfully installed a new water service for Kraus Mechanical. Work is ongoing at North Park, where a new sewer line and plumbing for a water fountain are being installed. The department completed 13 work orders in September, reflecting a commitment to maintaining and improving local water services.
Looking ahead, the city is preparing for further developments, including a project involving the railroad's water and sewer lines, which will be managed by Union Pacific. City officials will oversee inspections to ensure compliance and quality.
These initiatives underscore Herington's dedication to enhancing community infrastructure and fostering public involvement in local governance. Residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming events and stay informed about ongoing projects that impact their daily lives.
