In a recent meeting of the Marathon County Public Safety Committee, the sheriff's office presented a detailed analysis of calls for service at the Central Wisconsin Airport, addressing concerns raised by the Mosinee Police Department last year. The data, which was initially prepared in July but delayed for presentation, revealed that the Mosinee Police Department responded to 208 calls at the airport in 2024, accounting for approximately 3% of their total calls.
However, a closer examination of the data showed that many of these calls were not emergencies. Out of the 208 calls, 48 were alarm tests, 8 were community relations events, and 19 were self-initiated patrols. This means that only 102 calls were actual requests for police assistance, with 21 of those resulting in the need for a police report. The sheriff emphasized that the data can be misleading without proper context, as multiple units often respond to a single incident, inflating the call numbers.
The sheriff also reassured the committee that there is a mutual aid agreement in place with the Kronenwetter Police Department, ensuring that assistance is readily available when needed. This collaboration aims to enhance public safety and ensure that resources are effectively utilized, especially during significant events at the airport.
The discussion highlighted the importance of understanding the nature of calls for service and the collaborative efforts between local law enforcement agencies to address community safety concerns. As the committee continues to evaluate public safety measures, the insights from this data analysis will play a crucial role in shaping future responses and resource allocation at the airport and beyond.
