Summary
The City of Quincy Board of License Commissioners approved a one-day liquor license for the Thomas Crane Public Library’s after-hours Crane Gothic Gala on Oct. 24, allowing a cash bar for a limited indoor event.
The City of Quincy Board of License Commissioners on Oct. 7 approved a special-use one-day liquor license for the Thomas Crane Public Library’s Crane Gothic Gala, an after-hours community event scheduled for Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The permit allows the library, at 40 Washington Street, to operate a cash bar during the closed-door evening event. Theresa Tagney, speaking for the library, described the program as an after-hours community night with music, a magician, a tarot reader and passive activities to “allow the community to experience the library in a different way.”
Board members asked a small number of clarifying questions: the event will be held entirely inside the building, and food service will be limited to packaged snacks, Tagney said. Following the presentation, a board member moved to approve the requested special-use one-day liquor license and the motion passed by voice vote; the chair recorded the outcome as all in favor.
The board did not place additional conditions on the permit during the hearing. The commission concluded the item and moved on to other license matters.
Agenda item context: the matter was introduced at the start of the meeting as agenda item No. 1 and concluded with a passed motion approving the one-day liquor permit.
