Craig Miller, general manager of Western Water and incoming chair of WRCOG's Technical Advisory Committee, reported that Governor had signed SB72, legislation Miller said directs the Department of Water Resources to plan for nine million acre-feet of additional water supply for California.
Miller thanked WRCOG and member cities for letters of support and described the bill's multiyear advocacy, saying it took roughly three-and-a-half years to advance. He said he received a message from the head of the Department of Water Resources confirming the legislation would help provide resources to develop a plan for building water infrastructure.
Committee Chair and other members applauded Miller's work and the partnership of cities that submitted letters of support; Miller framed the action as an important step for the Inland Empire's water planning needs but did not describe specific projects or funding allocations tied to the statute.
