Board ratifies $8,997 dispatch AC replacement; staff to inventory aging units for budgeting

The Graham County Board of Supervisors ratified the unbudgeted purchase and installation of a dispatch air-conditioning unit costing $8,997, and discussed creating an inventory to plan future replacements.
County Manager Dustin Welker told the board that any unbudgeted capital item over $2,500 requires board approval and that when AC units fail in July and August staff typically replace them immediately. The unit replaced in dispatch was about 22 years old, Welker said.
A board member asked whether staff could assemble a list of older units and potential replacement timelines to help with budgeting. Welker said the county already keeps an inventory and services units regularly; he said the CFO had recently asked whether the county should budget to replace units older than 15 years.
One supervisor noted that newer units produce substantial efficiency gains and might reduce operating costs. The board moved, seconded and ratified the purchase by voice vote.
