Health department: STD investigation IGA amended; annual funding trimmed by $900

The Graham County Health Department asked the Board of Supervisors to approve Amendment 2 to the intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for STD infection investigations. Brian Douglas, speaking for the health department, said the amendment updates a price sheet, laboratory testing requirements and treatment procedures, and clarifies services the department already provides.
Douglas told the board that next year's funding under the amended IGA will be $900 lower annually because the number of reported cases has declined. "With this particular reduction in funding, it is due to cases. There's less cases," Douglas said, noting that the IGA was increased about three years ago by roughly $13,000 and recent funding is a modest reduction from that level.
A supervisor asked whether the decrease represented a statewide belt-tightening or fewer cases; Douglas attributed the drop to fewer reported cases rather than a change in state policy.
The board moved, seconded and approved Amendment 2 by voice vote.
