County approves $50,000-plus amendment to Tetra Tech agreement to add cultural resource survey

The Graham County Board of Supervisors approved the 10th amendment to Tetra Tech's professional services agreement to add a cultural resource survey needed to complete design plans for a federally funded flood mitigation project.
Eric Engel, with the county engineering department, told the board the original contract omitted the cultural resource survey and that NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) determined it was required for the project to proceed. Engel said Tetra Tech provided a cost estimate "like 50 something thousand dollars" for the additional work and that the county's grant within the CS would cover the fee.
Board members discussed the expense and the requirement. One supervisor said the county did not have discretion to skip the survey if it wanted final plans and additional NRCS construction funding. "If it wasn't absolutely necessary in order for us to get the final set of plans, I would say let's postpone it or cancel it. That's not the case," the supervisor said before moving approval.
The board voted to approve the amendment by voice vote.
