Tulsa AAPI commissioners plan leadership roundtables, ramp up tabling at fall events

The proposal calls for a small pilot this year leading into the Tulsa Asia Fest in January, with the goal of hosting at least two roundtables by mid‑2026. Cecilia said the meetings would be recurring, focused on sharing resources, exchanging feedback and aligning community priorities. She described the roundtables as “a network of community leaders” rather than another formal committee.
Commissioners discussed capacity limits and agreed to start small so staff and volunteers can support events already on the calendar. They flagged the need for one‑on‑one outreach to prospective roundtable participants before convening larger meetings so organizers have background on attendees and can tailor discussions.
Separately, the committee confirmed two tabling opportunities this month: the University of Tulsa’s annual Moon Festival (the university had offered a table but could not accept additional sponsorships) and the Oklahoma Hmong New Year celebration in Inola, Oct. 25–26, where the commission will tabling only on Saturday. Commissioners and community volunteers were invited to sign up to staff tables; printed business cards and a one‑page PIPOC sheet designed by Parisa will be available as takeaways.
Committee members also discussed creating a small palm card or QR‑coded handout for large festivals; staff member Lexi said an updated one‑pager and contact details would be included in upcoming print runs. Commissioners emphasized protecting limited volunteer capacity and prioritizing events that align with the commission’s objectives.
The meeting ended with reminders about the Luminary Awards luncheon in November and other cultural events the commission will support in coming months.
