On Oct. 8 the Board of Public Works approved amendment number 3 to city contract 19617, extending the agreement with C1 Truck Driver Training LLC through Nov. 7, 2026 and adding training to enable certain Department of Public Works employees to obtain full unrestricted Class A commercial driver's licenses.
DPW staff told the board the amendment adds requested services to allow certain divisions that operate semi‑trucks and similar equipment to have employees trained and certified to meet U.S. Department of Transportation requirements. The contract extension also allows DPW to continue providing CDL training for departmental staff as needed.
Kyle Hendricks, vice president of Local 725 (union), said about 100 people have completed the program and the city has retained roughly 96% of participants. "We have about 100 people has went through the course and we have retained right around 96% of them," Hendricks told the board. DPW staff said there is not a written agreement requiring employees to remain with the city for a set period after training; however, staff reported few participants left within a short window after training and called the program a successful hiring and retention incentive.
The board approved the amendment by voice vote.
