The City Council adopted Resolution 25-550 on Aug. 26 amending the city prosecutor contract with Rio Fultz PLLC and authorizing the mayor to sign the agreement.
City staff said the change is driven by increased time required at district court dockets for misdemeanor prosecutions after a change in prosecutorial approach. Public safety staff indicated the number of cases has not increased but the time spent on each case has, and the district court added two additional days to the city’s prosecution docket. Staff outlined an amendment to increase monthly compensation by $2,000 and to convert a month-to-month engagement to a three-year term to ensure sufficient contract funding for the additional court time.
Chief Troy Timares (on the meeting line) praised Michael Rio’s work in increasing “competency in the prosecutor’s office” and providing officer training; he told the council Mr. Rio “has done a fantastic job.” Council members asked no substantive questions and moved to adopt Resolution 25-550. The motion passed unanimously.
The resolution authorizes the mayor to execute the amended contract and directs staff to complete administrative steps for the extended contract term.
