Local activists press Registrar for records after reconciliation‑audit documents missing in recent special elections

Speakers at the Riverside County Board of Supervisors public-comment period urged the Registrar of Voters to release complete records needed for a reconciliation audit of recent special elections, saying the office has not provided documentation auditors requested.

"They have standard operating procedure for the roster audit. They still don't have a standard operating procedure for the reconciliation audit," said Greg Langworthy, who described attempts to obtain ballot records needed for the county reconciliation review. Langworthy said when records were available in 2024 a reconciliation comparison found a discrepancy of 33,888 votes and that missing records now prevent a similar audit for recent special elections.

Langworthy said the office has performed roster and 1% tally audits but has not documented the reconciliation-audit process. He told the board he had written to the Registrar (referred to as Art in public comments) and asked that records be produced for upcoming elections. Veronica Langworthy also asked supervisors to place the matter on a full-board agenda for discussion and said the county's change to a new election-management system and voter‑choice process requires transparency and oversight: "I am respectfully requesting that you put on an agenda, a workshop or something to discuss this because it's not efficient," she said.

Speakers told the board they have had some access to records but that key items remain missing; they requested that the county ensure the Registrar provides complete ballot and reconciliation records so independent audits can proceed. The board did not take action during public comment but members indicated they were monitoring the issue and that county staff and the Registrar have previously cooperated on records requests.
