Board approves $6,500 opioid-fund training on fentanyl response for first responders

Kootenai County commissioners approved Oct. 7 the use of opioid-settlement funds to bring training on fentanyl and other drugs to the Office of Emergency Management.
Andrea Littlefield requested board approval to spend $6,500 of opioid funds to host the training on May 13, 2026. Littlefield said the training fits “appendix A in section I 1” of the opioid‑fund use criteria to educate law enforcement and other first responders on appropriate practices when dealing with fentanyl or other drugs.
The board approved the request unanimously; recorded aye votes included Commissioner Aberleine, Commissioner Duncan and the chair.
Staff noted the date and cost; no additional budgetary changes were made during the meeting.
