Nolan Chernyshek, a junior from New Braunfels, continues to play baseball while receiving chemotherapy for osteosarcoma and drives to Houston for weekly treatments, a Spectrum News field report aired on In Focus Texas said.
“After chemo. Like, I could be doing more. I could be helping the team more,” Nolan said on camera, describing the drive, treatment schedule and his determination to remain with his team.
The report said Nolan’s femur fractured while rounding third base; subsequent tests and a biopsy led to an osteosarcoma diagnosis and immediate chemotherapy. Nolan described the experience as “very real and very challenging throughout the recovery process,” and the field reporter noted he still gets chemo one day a week in Houston but does not miss practice on those days.
Nolan and the report emphasized resilience and gratitude for being able to return to the field. “Life could always be worse. No matter how bad you think your life is, it could always be worse. And I'm lucky enough to, like, do chemo and then come back out here on this great facility and just play with all my friends,” he said.
