District reports progress on bleachers, card access, roofing and bus garage planning; softball field storm drain repair underway

Henderson County Public Schools facilities staff updated the board Sept. 8 on multiple capital projects: visitor bleachers at East Henderson High were replaced and associated paving completed; gym bleacher seat replacement at Hendersonville High was finished; card access installations are underway at 11 schools (seven complete); roofing and HVAC-control replacement projects are in progress; and a request-for-qualifications process for a future bus garage project has begun.
Facilities staff said East Henderson—s new visitor bleachers and perimeter paving were completed in time for the opening games and praised the installer—s work. Gym floor refinishing and auxiliary-gyms bleacher replacements at other campuses were also reported finished. Card-access work at multiple campuses is in final phases; staff said a delayed hinge part had recently arrived and installers were completing the final doors.
The district released an RFQ (architectural services) on Sept. 3 to advance planning for a new bus garage; staff said they will form a selection committee that will include county representation and evaluate proposals as the RFQ process runs its course.
Facilities staff also reported an active repair at Hendersonville Elementary: a storm drain under the softball outfield had partially collapsed and is being excavated. Staff said the compromised section runs from the sinkhole back to the street and that replacement of the storm pipe will require deep excavation (roughly 20 feet) and is expected to be a significant, costed repair; a camera inspection confirmed the collapse is localized to the segment closer to the street.
Several paving, parking-lot repairs and maintenance projects (bus lots, seal and restrip at select elementary schools) were described as scheduled. Roofing work at East and West Henderson began this month; vendor Bonnets has started work on selected buildings.
No board action was required; staff said they will return with contract awards and further cost details as procurement processes advance.
