The Henderson County Board of Public Education elected Amy Lynn Holt as vice chair and approved a one-year extension of the superintendent—s contract and an added retirement supplement during its Sept. 8 meeting.
Board members nominated Amy Lynn Holt for vice chair, closed nominations and approved her by voice vote. Following the vote the board referred any required internal rearrangements to a future meeting.
The board also voted unanimously to extend the superintendent—s contract for an additional year and approved an added retirement supplement. Board members said the action acknowledged the superintendent—s work and intended transparency about compensation. The board chair clarified the vote did not reflect a confidential agreement and said the board wanted the public to know the decision and the rationale.
Board Chair (name not specified in transcript) opened nominations and led the vote for vice chair. At the meeting the chair said, "We have not entered into any kind of relationship with them [outside organizations]... it is just basically because of our policy, we have to approve that when any board members go to any of their professional development." That clarification was given later in the meeting during a separate agenda item (see CALN article).
The superintendent—s extension and retirement supplement were part of the consent agenda and approved as presented. No roll-call vote tally for the superintendent motion was given in the transcript; the chair announced the personnel action passed unanimously.
The board also welcomed new member Stephanie Catwell at the meeting, and several board members offered observations on recent school visits.
The actions change leadership procedures (vice chair role) and extend the superintendent—s contract through December 2025, with the board indicating they will address any necessary logistical rearrangements at a later meeting.
