Thurston County held a public hearing to accept comments on the proposed 2026–2031 six-year Transportation Improvement Program, a statutory planning document that guides the county’s transportation spending for the next six years.
Becky Khan, traffic engineering and operations manager with Public Works, summarized the TIP’s purpose and contents and told the board the program satisfies state planning requirements under the Revised Code of Washington. “The TIP is a planning document which guides transportation improvements in the county for the next 6 years,” Khan said.
Khan outlined the TIP chapters: statutory citations; funding sources; a summary of transportation revenues and expenditures; program prioritization processes; the annual construction program; the prioritized six-year project list (including funding, timeline, and project details); the 20-year capacity list that underpins transportation impact fees; and the county’s annual bridge inspection report.
Staff noted three projects were adjusted or renamed from the prior year, seven projects were removed (either completed or de-prioritized), and three projects were added. Public Works received one written comment about pedestrian and bicycle projects; no one from the public spoke at the hearing in the chamber. The board closed the hearing with no further action taken at the session; adoption of the TIP will occur as part of the county’s budget adoption process in December.
