Thompson School District officials presented a first reading of revised choice- and open-enrollment policies that compress application windows, change notification timing and add an explicit hardship placement option.
Assistant Superintendent Sarah Rasmussen and Carrie Garvin, director of assessment and evaluation, told the board the changes move the district from two in-district choice windows to a single choice window that will open in November and close on Jan. 31. "We're gonna open it still the same time, November 1 ... and instead of closing it right before the holiday break, we're gonna leave it open through January 31 this year," Garvin said. She said the change is intended to give families and principals more time to make placement and staffing decisions in the spring semester.
