Orange Beach approves Christmas lighting plan and discusses $5,000 Wharf ice rink sponsorship

Council members indicated support for the partnership; one council member said the ice rink was a positive activity for schools and youth, and staff noted scheduling that the rink will operate for multiple weeks around the Thanksgiving period.
Council also set a public hearing date of Oct. 7, 2025, for Ordinance 172, a minor Planned Unit Development modification at the Wharf to establish a temporary sales area tied to the ice rink. That ordinance will return for formal consideration after public notice and the hearing.
The council recorded general consensus to move forward; there was no roll-call vote recorded in the transcript for the lighting or sponsorship decisions. Staff will issue purchase orders and follow the public-hearing process for the Wharf PUD minor modification.
