Andalusia council approves $1 million sidewalk project after state TAP grant

The Andalusia City Council on Oct. 2025 approved Resolution 2025-35 to accept an $800,000 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant and provide a $200,000 city match, creating a $1 million sidewalk improvement project on the city’s north side.

Councilmembers said the project will install sidewalks along Jerry Drive (north and south), Short Street and David Street, connect with Manabesta Avenue and link to the local housing authority and existing sidewalks toward the Andalusia Bypass. "This project will provide sidewalks along the streets of Jerry Drive, North And South, Short Street, David Street, connected with Manabesta Avenue, and will connect to the housing authority, and which will lead them to the Andalusia, but connect to existing sidewalk leading to the Andalusia Bypass," Councilmember Nicks said.

The grant was originally pursued in an earlier application cycle but was not awarded; the city reapplied and was successful this year. The council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution after Councilmember Nicks moved approval and Councilmember Griffin seconded. The TAP project number was read on the record as "transportation alternative program project number t a p p a - t a 26 (924)" in the meeting materials. The mayor and council did not state a construction schedule during the meeting.
