The City Council approved the city’s portion of a restaurant retail liquor application for Kim Samurai Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar on Sept. 16.
The mayor said the restaurant, located on Highway 55 at the truck bypass on the city’s south side, has operated for roughly 25 years without incident and that the new applicant is part of the family that previously ran the business. Councilman Boswell moved to approve the application; Councilman Mapp seconded the motion and the council approved it by voice vote.
The council recorded no discussion of conditions, restrictions or objections in the transcript. The mayor described the approval as “in so far as the city is concerned,” noting the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board process governs the final licensing step.
