City Council unanimously adopts $29.2 million fiscal 2026 budget

The City Council on Sept. 16 unanimously adopted Resolution 2025-32, approving the city’s fiscal year 2026 budget, which takes effect Oct. 1.
Mayor said the proposed budget includes $29,200,000 in operating expenses, “which is represents a 2.6 percent increase over the the current budget of last year.” He told the council that actual expenses are only about $10,000 more than last year’s budget and noted $250,000 is in contingency and $923,526 is budgeted for capital improvements used for equipment and construction for city operations.
The budget was presented to council members several days earlier for review. A councilmember moved to adopt Resolution 2025-32; Councilmember Smith seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
Council discussion included the mayor’s observation that the proposed expenditure growth is lower than the current annual rate of inflation and his recommendation to adopt the budget as presented. The council did not record further debate in the transcript. The budget covers the period Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026.

The budget’s adoption sets city spending authority for the coming fiscal year and enables the capital improvement account and contingency fund allocations to be spent under existing procurement and appropriation rules.
