The North Platte City Council on Oct. 7 authorized the mayor to negotiate and sign documents for a five-year contract with RouteWare for the sanitation department after staff reported they had reduced the vendor’s proposed annual price escalation.
Lane Groeseth, city staff, explained that the original agreement contained escalating costs of 10% per year in years two through five. "We have renegotiated that to 4% per year," Groeseth said, adding the motion asked authorization for the mayor to finalize a five-year agreement and sign necessary documents.
Councilmember Volz moved to authorize the mayor to sign the contract documents; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Bridal and carried. Councilmembers questioned staff about the negotiation and noted the reduction was achieved after staff asked the vendor to reconsider the unusual escalation terms.
The motion authorized a five-year agreement and directed the mayor and staff to complete negotiations and execute related documents. No vote tally was recorded in the meeting minutes beyond the council’s approval.
