Council adopts curbside recycling agreement with Baldwin County for $10 monthly fee

The Spanish Fort City Council adopted resolution 15 54 2025 to authorize an agreement with the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County to provide curbside recycling collection to city residents.
Staff described the program as voluntary: each household may elect to participate and receive a large cart for weekly pickup for a fee of $10 a month. The initial term described in the resolution is four years with options to renew; recyclable materials will be taken to the county recycling facility.
During discussion councilmembers noted the city has previously offered recycling and pointed to existing drop-off bins behind the old city hall. The resolution passed on a roll call vote recorded in the meeting as unanimous.
The agreement was presented as exhibit 1 to the resolution; staff said the county would provide carts and collection services and that the program would restart curbside recycling for residents who opt in. The measure was introduced and adopted at the Oct. 6 meeting.
