The staff framed the committee as an optional, discretionary layer: ‘‘The board still has oversight, final approval, but along the way, you might say, hey — let's pull a focus group in or a broader community group,’’ a staff presenter said.
Why it matters: staff said fewer than 20% of districts statewide are considering the same alternate review pathway and that adding a board-policy committee would create a cadence for bringing materials to the board three or four times per year for review. Staff emphasized that the district’s internal processes have produced no formal concerns and that the proposed committee would add a layer of board-level discretion and community input.
No formal change to policy was adopted at the meeting; staff said they would bring a draft EFB local policy and proposed committee process back to the board in a future meeting if trustees direct staff to proceed.
