A representative of the Aladdin Shrine Hospital Association presented an $8,096 donation to the Fairfield Union School District to purchase specialty equipment for students with physical needs.
Turnbull introduced Mister Mowery, who said the Shriners hospital network supports children with a range of physical needs and that the local Shriner association has raised funds for equipment and services. In presenting the donation, Mister Mowery described the district’s application for equipment and said the association would provide the requested items. “I have a check right here for 8,096 dollars, and this is for a high load changing cable, a wrist and pacer gate trainer, and a crocodile gate trainer,” Mowery said (verbatim from the presentation).
Why it matters: administrators said the equipment will help students with mobility and positioning needs and that the donation came via an application prepared with the district’s physical therapist. The board approved the consent agenda, which included acceptance of the donation, during a unanimous recorded vote.
Procedural note: the donation and associated items were described during public recognition and were included in the consent agenda approved by the board. Staff said the items were identified in a proposal developed with the district’s physical therapist to meet specific student needs.
Next steps: district staff will accept the funds, purchase the specified equipment, and integrate it into services for students with physical needs; no additional board action was recorded at the meeting.
