The Timberlane budget committee accepted for consideration the music department’s FY26 proposed budget of $129,768.86 after a presentation that emphasized transportation to festivals, instrument maintenance and replacement, and uniform upkeep.
The presenter said FY24 actuals were higher because one-time surplus money paid for replacement marching-band uniforms. For FY26, the budget holds steady near current levels: the proposed figure was $129,768, a small variance from FY25. Key cost drivers include transportation to festivals and auditions, instrument maintenance and the purchase of additional beginner and fractional-sized string instruments for elementary students, and replacement digital keyboards to reduce recurring piano-tuning costs.
The presenter also said an increase in front-end and pit percussion equipment is required to accommodate a larger percussion cohort moving from middle to high school. The committee voted unanimously to take the music budget under consideration and approved it for inclusion in the FY26 package.
The presenter asked the committee to note the district purchases new marching uniforms in March, which reduces the need for a large, immediate uniform-replacement line in future years.
