The Teton County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved Nov. 18 a draft letter to the State Board of Land Commissioners thanking the board for its decision to sell the Kelly parcel to the federal government to protect wildlife and other public values.
Chair Probst said staff revised the letter over the weekend and circulated an updated copy the morning of the meeting. Commissioner Makar moved to approve the letter "as amended over the weekend," and Commissioner Epstein seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
Commissioners and staff identified the parcel in meeting discussion using its public land description: "Parcel 43, Township 43 North, Range 115 West, Section 36," for members who follow the township-and-range method of land description in western states.
Several commissioners described the decision as a major step toward protecting wildlife and scenic values in the valley, while noting that final conveyance was not yet fully certain. Staff thanked Kristen for drafting and coordinating the letter.
No additional board action was taken on the parcel at the Nov. 18 meeting; the letter is administrative correspondence expressing the county's position and appreciation to the State Board of Land Commissioners.
