During the public‑comment portion of the Secaucus Board of Education meeting, resident Anthony Grenier raised multiple requests for information and asked the board to provide updates in writing.
Grenier commended the district for establishing a pre‑K integrated co‑teach (ICT) half‑day program and urged expansion. He asked for specifics on district goal No. 3 — “how exactly does the district plan on providing intervention delivery support with counselors, behavior specialists, interventionists, and school psychiatrist, as well as professional trainings on trauma informed care, SEL, and de‑escalation strategies,” and whether that support would include students with IEPs. He also asked for an update on whether a grant writer has been hired and for details on the superintendent search and the affirmative action team’s goals and reporting timeline. Grenier asked the board to resume posting special meeting notices via the district listserv and requested reconsideration of forming a special education committee.
The acting superintendent offered to respond in writing. “I could send it by email and then it'll all be in writing,” he said. He provided an interim public update on the superintendent search: the district received 10 applicants and one withdrew when contacted for first‑round interviews, leaving nine candidates; first‑round interviews were ongoing and two remained scheduled as of Aug. 28. When asked later, Voorhees confirmed that all nine applicants were given an opportunity for a first‑round interview.
On the grant writer question, a district staff member identified as Greg said, “Yes. I'm in the process of putting the RFP together to solicit.” Grenier asked whether district goal interventions would include supports specific to children with IEPs and requested that the board provide the affirmative action team’s goals and a reporting timetable; the acting superintendent said he and district staff would follow up by email with the requested details.
The board did not adopt new policy in response to these public requests during the meeting; the administration committed to responding to the speaker by email and to provide public updates when appropriate.
