The Secaucus Board of Education received an operations and finance update covering building projects, completed work orders, lighting upgrades and soil testing during its February meeting.
Committee members reported 362 completed work orders this month and described several active projects: lock replacement at Huber Street School (expected to be completed during the break); a generator replacement; cleaning and reclaiming the Clarendon School basement and the space over the gym so archived school files currently in off-site storage can be returned to district property. The committee estimated reclaiming on-site space could save the district about $2,025,000. Work on the middle/high school gym floor and lighting has been completed, and LED lighting upgrades are underway in district buildings.
The committee confirmed the district conducts annual soil samples at all schools after removal of oil tanks and stated publicly that the district is OSHA compliant with respect to those samples. Committee members also briefed the board on progress toward hiring per-diem custodians, training head custodians on the building management system and updates to the district website.
The board approved finance resolutions r 4.01 through r 4.08 by roll call; several members recused themselves from specific transfers and reports as recorded. No contracts or specific transfer amounts were disclosed in the verbal summary beyond the $2,025,000 projected savings estimate for moving files back on-site.
Committee members requested continued oversight as projects proceed and noted the budget process is ongoing.
