Board approves hires, a retirement and a calendar change using unused snow days

The Governance Committee presented agenda items that included hiring a special-education teacher and a physical-education teacher, ratification of the supervisory contract, and acceptance of the retirement of long-time bus driver Susan Olson after 17 years of service. The committee also recommended the district consider substitute-teacher pay when preparing next year’s budget.
The board approved a change to this year’s calendar to use unused snow days; as a result the last day of school will be June 25. The committee also reported the district will host a social worker practicum in partnership with the University of Kentucky and will run a multilingual class in the Beyond the Bell program at Huber Street and Clarendon from April to June, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., to support English-language learners.
A motion to approve and adopt resolutions r 1.01 through r 1.02 and motion m 1.01 was made and seconded; the roll call carried, with some board members recusing themselves from specific resolutions where noted on the record. The board also accepted a donation (slide study set) from board member Christina DeBary as listed on the agenda.
Board members congratulated the retirees and new hires during comments; no additional policy changes tied to the personnel slate were adopted at the meeting.
