Board accepts student-safety data showing three incidents so far this year

The Secaucus Board of Education voted to accept the Acting Superintendent’s Student Safety Data System report during its February meeting, the board said.
The report, presented by the Acting Superintendent, said the district recorded three total incidents districtwide for the period covered: two classified as violence and one as a substance incident. The report listed seven incidents that led to removal (disciplinary removals). It also recorded three alleged HIV-related incidents and zero confirmed HIV cases. The Acting Superintendent said, “With over 2,000 kids, I think we’re doing pretty good.”
Board members discussed the presentation briefly before a motion to accept the report was made and seconded. The roll call showed the motion carried; most members voted yes, with two board members abstaining on the measure.
The Acting Superintendent told the board the district maintains training and programs such as character education and week-of-respect activities and that incident reporting is collected centrally by district administrative staff. The presentation listed staff and offices involved in maintaining the records and trainings.
The board did not adopt additional new policy language during the vote. The Acting Superintendent and board members said the district will continue the existing training and reporting practices through the end of the school year.
The accepted report was made available to the board and will remain on file at the district offices for review.
