District reports EV-bus deliveries, summer EBT details and business administrator’s resignation

The Leonia Board of Education received administrative updates that included a pending resignation by the district’s business administrator, delivery of electric buses, SREC auction proceeds, the approved last days of school and information on the state summer EBT program.
Business administrator Eric Tomasiewicz told the board he has submitted his resignation and wrote a statement thanking colleagues and the community and noting progress on financial operations. He remains in position through late June and the district said it will announce transition plans; board members said there will be an opportunity to acknowledge his service before he departs.
Tomasiewicz reported that the district has received four of seven electric (EV) school buses paid for with grant and lease funding and that charger installations are underway, with completion expected in the coming weeks. He asked the community to anticipate EV buses in service for student transportation and field trips.
On the district’s renewable-energy credits, Tomasiewicz said the school sold 477 SRECs on April 19 for just over $93,000, exceeding the amount included in the current budget (the district had budgeted approximately $85,000).
The board approved a revised school calendar on the consent agenda. Acting Superintendent Dr. Karamanos said the district will publish details via ParentSquare; she gave dates included in the approved calendar: Anna C. Scott’s moving-up ceremony in the morning and Leonia Middle School’s graduation the afternoon of June 19, and Leonia High School’s graduation and the district’s last day of school on June 20.
Tomasiewicz and the superintendent also described the state Summer EBT program for 2025: families determined eligible will receive $120 per eligible child loaded to a card mailed by the state. Eligibility can be determined by direct certification from the state or by application; the district encouraged families who believe they might qualify to submit an application by the May 9 deadline.
Other brief administrative notes included reports on international student trips (Humanities Academy trip to Italy and STEM Academy trip to Japan) and reminders about spring musicals and testing schedules. The board did not take special votes on these items beyond routine consent-agenda approvals.
